2024 Glide ‘n Gorge Cancelled

March 2, 2024 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

UPDATE: ON FEBRUARY 20 THE HTC BOARD OF DIRECTORS CANCELLED THE 2024 GLIDE ‘N GORGE DUE TO ANTICIPATED DETERIORATION OF TRAIL CONDITIONS WITH EXTENDED ABOVE FREEZING TEMPERATURES.

As excited as the Hancock Trails Club has been to show off the rebuilt Creekside trail and host the first GNG along the length of Swedetown Creek in six years the Board was not confident the event could be safely held to protect skiers and the trail surface itself with little in the way of fresh snow or freezing temperatures through March 2nd to improve an already very thin base. Please make plans to attend next year and purchase your club annual membership if you have not already to support the trail system in a challenging year.

As an early breakup season approaches please assess trail conditions carefully and refrain from hiking or biking on soft and muddy trail surfaces.  We anticipate the Gorge trails will remain soft and fragile for some time after the snow melts as they continue to stabilize from last summer’s construction activity.

The 16th annual Glide ‘N Gorge takes place Saturday, March 2, 2024, from noon until 3 pm, starting at the Four Seasons Chalet at the north end of the Hancock Recreation Area (Driving Park) at 1500 Birch Drive. Thanks to the completed trail repairs, the event will again take advantage of the Creekside Trail in the Swedetown Creek gorge.

Volunteers will serve appetizers at one trail side station.  A second trail side station will serve soup and bread along Swedetown Creek.  For the final station desserts will be served  in the Hancock Four Seasons Chalet at the end of your route.  We anticipate a trail of about 6km (or roughly 3.6 miles). It is recommended to begin from the Chalet around noon when the event starts to allow yourself plenty of time to enjoy the trail and an afternoon with friends during the three hour event. Besides skiing other options to participate include snowshoeing and fat biking.

Tickets can be purchased in advance of the event on-line for $20 using the link below. Tickets will increase to $25 on the day of the event. You can also purchase tickets at Down Wind Sports in Houghton and Cross Country Sports in Calumet.  Or contact a Hancock Trails Club board member. Children less than 18 years old  can tag along for free.

Using the donate button you can purchase a single ticket or more by inputting multiples of $20. We recommend putting the name of who will be picking up the tickets in the Notes box during the purchasing process.
