Retro Ski (or snowshoe) Feb. 18 1:00 pm

The annual Retro Ski will take place Sunday, February 18, 2024, starting to gather at 1:00 pm at the Four Seasons Chalet at the Hancock Recreation Area (Driving Park). Because of the variable conditions this year the gathered participants will decide where to go and

what form of locomotion to use. So bring both skis and snowshoes. We will assess the conditions and decide what form of travel to do and where. We can also divide into groups to do different activities if there are differing interests. The “Retro” part of this is that you are encouraged to wear and use old time clothes and equipment, but that is not a requirement for participation — dress however you please and use whatever equipment is best for you.

Besides getting to use old equipment the other objective of the event to is explore parts of the Maasto Hiihto/Churning Rapids trail system that are off the beaten path or seldom visited in the winter season. The Retro Ski is an opportunity each year to explore some of that country with like-minded friends and knowledgeable guides. There is no fee for this event, although donations are always appreciated.

The event includes breaking trail and possibly some lightly groomed trails. Time on the trail is likely to range from 2 -3 hours.
